In 2018 our founder Ashley Nevison's cat, Sargeant, died unexpectedly from cancer. She knew she had to do something to honor him. She started sewing cat toys out of fabric scraps. Her goal was two-fold, to keep the fabric scraps out of landfills and give cats in shelters a taste of home before they get adopted. She was sewing and donating cat toys until March 2020 when the Covid pandemic started. She decided to pivot and use her sewing skills to start sewing masks for essential workers. She had sewed and donated masked and shipped them all across the USA when she heard that the homeless youth in her community were in desperate need of masks due to new city mask mandates. She decided to sew some and deliver them at a homeless outreach event. When she got home she saw a post about a youth grant opportunity that asked if you had $250 how would you use the money to make a difference in your community. She decided that if she won the $250 grant she would create hygiene Hope Bags and donate them to homeless shelters. Her life changed forever that day. She ended up receiving the grant and the $250 grant started it all.
Thousands of animals are living on the streets or in shelters awaiting a forever home. We provide cat toys and blankets to rescue organizations to help care for and socialize these neglected and forgotten furry friends so they have a 'taste of home' before they find their forever families.
We have created a bootcamp for several of these opportunities - check the link out for more details.
In addition to providing food to those in need; we work with local organizations to provide essential needed items to those who need them most. We provide Hope Bags with personal care and hygiene items, food, water and face masks for the homeless.
Since 2021 we have been involved in GivingTuesday and providing outerwear across the nation. And since 2024 we have run our No Soldier Left Behind Project focusing on homeless Veterans.
Through the program, "Reading With Purpose" we offer volunteers a chance to read their favorite children's book to children in kindergarten to 5th grade.
